Shrike.jpg Jan 6-9: Patrick, PT, and Greg attended the Ouray Ice Festival. Excellent times!
Fineline.jpg Jan 11: The Fine Line: Avalanche Safety Film Night We showed an innovative avy/ski film and refreshed some basic beacon skills before heading off to the real avy course in a few weeks. 32 people attended, 10 extra large pizzas were consumed.
Avypic.jpg 18 people attended 2-day avalanche awareness and rescue class on Jan 22-23 based in Bishop, led by the renowned SP Parker of the Sierra Mountain Center. This event was partially sponsored by generous funding from the Caltech Alumni Association. There was a half-day class, half day of beacon practice, and one full day in the field. Caa.jpg
Banff2011.jpg Banff Film Festival Selection Night 2011 at 7:30 pm on Wednesday January 26! We voted on which films to screen for one of our biggest events of the year, the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Wampa.jpg Jan 28-29: Training Trip #1 on Mount Baldy
Reel Rock flyer new.jpg Reel Rock Tour 2010 at 7:30 pm on Wednesday February 2! This was the first time Caltech Alpine Club hosted the Reel Rock Tour, and the event was a roaring success with 250+ attendence and amazing movies. Watch out for Reel Rock 2011!

Raven large.jpg Feb 11-13: Mount Whitney Trip a success with 0% fatality rate, 21 people, mulled wine at High Camp and a watermelon on the summit, and ideal conditions.
Banff 2011 flyer.jpg Mar 29: The ~11th annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour stop at Caltech. The show was sold out for the Nth year in a row, and featured a whopping 10 different films.

Minaret booth.jpg Awesome slideshow night April 25 7:30 at the Caltech Y. Three short slideshows from club members, with Pizza. The rec room at the Y was packed with 30-40 people.
Tb summit.jpg Apr 29- May 1: Winter Mountaineering Trip 2011 Veteran's trip to The Palisades a success! 8 climbers summit Thunderbolt Peak by the North Couloir route, and 4 summit Mount Gayley by the NW ridge the previous day.
Burgercontinental.jpg May 12, 6-8:30 pm, our first monthly social at Burger Continental! About 12-15 people were in attendance and enjoyed the $2 burger special and plenty of lively chatter.

Pizza-the-Hut.jpg June 9: Movie/Pizza Night at 8:30pm, in the multi-purpose room at the Caltech-Y. ~10 people attended and enjoyed pizza, drinks, and movies!

Arc logo.jpg June 2011: Beginning of a discounted monthly membership deal with The Arc, a bouldering gym in nearby Arcadia, CA. Our contact at the gym is Lisa; show an ID and get the $30/month rate (normally $55 for general public and $42 for students).

A smashing success with a sellout crowd of ~380 in Ramo auditorium, tons of giveaways and raffle prizes, representatives from all manner of local search and rescue operations, local businesses, and alpine associations. 6 amazing movies and one amazing night!
